We
hope you enjoy reading about our dairy goats. We are still working on
getting the reference section together, as you can imagine 40 plus years
of information in breeding dairy goats creates quite a quagmire of
information to try to coordinate and present in a logical manner!
We raise Nubians and LaManchas . I began
raising and breeding
dairy goats in the 1960's as a 4-H project. Originally we lived in Southern California, and in 1996 we moved
the herd to Redding, California. We're located on a beautiful parcel of land with huge oaks and digger
pines and seasonal creeks. Our summers are hot, the winters are wet ... but we love it! Our
beginnings were with Nubians, and the LaManchas joined us in 1987 when
we purchased a beautiful yearling milker at the National Show Colorama
Sale. In both breeds, our focus is on breeding an animal that is
balanced, strong & correct with beautiful breed type as well as
strong well-attached
mammary systems, can and
will live a long and productive life, and most importantly produce
offspring that are as nice or nicer in those categories as they are
themselves.
We
participate in DHIR testing, linear appraisal (classification in the old
days!), show at both the local and state level, as well as traveling
to
most National Shows ... no matter how far we have to drive! Please keep
in mind when you review the accomplishments of our
animals - they have traveled many thousands of miles over the years, and
still attain high production records, solid appraisal scores, and
compete successfully in the show ring both locally and nationally.
Several of our animals have been listed on the Young Sire Development
Program, the Elite Sire/Dam lists, and are included in the recent ADGA
Superior Genetics Program. We're proud that they (and their offspring)
have done very well in herds across the country.
As a
result of our management and breeding program, in conjunction with our
strict culling processes, we are confident of the potential of the kids
we offer for sale. We use
ADGA programs, as well as our own instincts and experience, in making decisions about herd retention. We feel these efforts provide us with consistent performance in
each generation, and help the tradition of strong genetic traits that we
hope to have instilled in successive generations of animals that are
Kastdemur bred.
We
are so thankful to all of you who have believed in our program
and have
purchased animals and/or semen from us in the past ... and continue to do
so now! Many of our customers
are repeat buyers. We
even extended our transition of the inclusion of LaManchas into our herd
to several formerly Nubian-only herds ... watch out...they grow on
you!!!!! We value the many friends that we have made over the years and
will always offer our
continued support and encouragement ... you know how much we appreciate
you!
If
you are interested in purchasing a Kastdemur bred animal, please contact
us to discuss your options. We
work to personalize your choices, discussing strengths and weaknesses of
each individual animal and the potential impact on your herd and the
lines you are currently using. We
work with you, the buyer, to hopefully provide Kastdemur dairy goats
that will compliment your breeding program, and to help accomplish the
goals that you have set for you and your herd. Also, be sure
to check out our "National Show Placings"
to see how not only our animals place at the National Show, but animals
sired by our bucks place as well. To see additional information
about us go to the "More About Us"
page. We have also been adding animals to both the LaMancha
and Nubian Reference pages, so be
sure to check those out as well. As we find time we will be adding
more information to the Reference pages throughout the year!
